The starting salary would be around 30k per year for a well trained chef working at a decent resturaunt. Chefs at francise resturaunts like Applebees and Chilis probably don't make much more than 20K. Chefs can go to vocational schools to learn thier trade, or they can major in culinary arts or hospitality management at local community colleges. Some colleges have four year degree programs, but not many. Also, every branch of the US military has training programs for chefs and cooks, because of high demand.
