Have you asked your mother what she wants to do?
She may want to find a place that she can afford.
If she cannot afford a place alone, she may want to
find someone of her age to share space and rent.
For example, she can rent a room or a basement.
She may also want to try local nursing homes and
find out who's doing their hair.
If this does not work go to and post
your ad for free and we will try to match her with someone
in your area.

If she still has valuable skills, she could:

1) Relocate to an area where costs are lower. After leaving Sacramento, where did she end up moving in the first place, Los Angeles?

2) If in a major city, I'm sure she could find a part time job as a hair dresser at a barber shop or saloon. I went to, typed in 'hair', and pulled up about 20 hair stylist positions/hairdresser for the LA market. Other jobs: work in a casino, retail store, hotel, etc.

3) Can she go door to door? Perhaps she can start her own business, go door to door, and offer haircuts to busy people at their homes or offices?

4) Is she 65 yet? Start taking in the social security check, relocate to a cost-friendly area.

5) If she can not support herself, you may have to step in and support her. My mother current supports my grandmother; who is now 88 years old (she's been supporting her since age 78).

Hope this helps and best of luck!

She could try to rent a chair at local salons. But if she is trying to retire, she should find something else that she has a passion for and is good at. For example, if she can bake she could bake in her home and sell it. All it takes is a good idea and good advertising.

If your mom is so old and she has trouble working then why don't you give her some money? She's your mom for crying out loud.
